Geo Profiling

What is the Geographical Profiling Tool?

The Geographical Profiling tool allows registered user's to create a user defined request for statistical information for their area of interest. A wide variety of Census data is available - RoI Census data (2002, 2006) and Comparable Cross Border data (1991 and 2001/02). As AIRO develops it is hoped that user will be able to select key public facility data to be included within a request. Data for facilities such as Schools, Hospitals, GP's, Transport facilities etc are currently being generated and will be incorporated in due course.

How does it work?

A.  Use the Mapping interface to zoom to your chosen location. You can create a study area using 3 different tools

          1.  Create a point and select a search radius for your study area

          2.  Create a point based polygon of your study area

          3.  Create a freehand based polygon of your study area

B.  Select the information you want included in your analysis. Data is currently available on a number of themes

          1.  RoI Census data

              - 2006 Census data

              - 2002 Census data

              - 2002-2006 Census data

          2.  All-Island Data (this data is only applicable if study area is within Northern Ireland)

              - 2006 Population Estimates

              - 2001/02 Census data

          3.  Locational Information

              - Locational information on public facility data: schools, GPs, hospitals etc

C.  Provide a name for you analysis e.g. “Ennis 15km 2006 Census data”

D.  Execute your query

E.  The results of your analysis will be displayed on the screen in table format. You will also be able to download the results in an excel format and download the map as a .jpg

The Geographical Profiling tool is still under-construction and currently only available on the NUIM network. We now have a new server online and hope to have the tool available in September. Updates to follow - 11th August 2011.
